Jock Stein

12th May 1967: Celtic manager Jock Stein (1922 - 1985) during a training session for Celtic's European Cup Final match against Inter Milan. Tommy Gemmell and Stevie Chalmers scored for Celtic which ensured a surprise 2-1 victory for the Scottish team. Celtic became the first British side to win the Trophy and remain the only Scottish side to reach the final. Jock Stein's playing career was abruptly ended by an ankle injury but he spent 13 years managing Celtic and achieved 25 domestic titles and European trophies including the unique achievement of nine consecutive league Championships. He was considered to be the best Scottish football manager of all time and served his country as the manager of the national side after a spell in England managing Leeds. On 10th September 1985 Scotland won a World Cup qualifying match in Cardiff but while the team celebrated at the final whistle Jock Stein collapsed and died from a heart problem.
