Congressman Larson statement at tax reform committee mark

Connecticut Congressman John Larson says at a legislative markup on comprehensive tax reform by the House Ways and Means Committee that the preceding was theater, that the oldest continuous committee in the United States Congress was proceeding with a great charade without expert witness testimony like calling the head of the Department of revenue services for the state of Connecticut. Larson says the transfer of wealth from one region of the country on the backs of hard-working people in the middle class to another is not good for the honorable people of the Committee. Larson apologizes to Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Thomas Barthold and his hard-working staff for being merely a showpiece and camouflage for what was really going on because the Committee votes would follow a partyline 24-16 all the way down the line to the floor of the House while Republicans would perpetuate that any kind of regular order or bipartisanship had been followed without a single hearing or a single expert witness.
