Senator Blumenthal Supports Wray for FBI, Warns Trump Against Firing Special Counsel

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal says that the FBI director does not serve at the pleasure of the president alone. But the Constitution and the people, he must be independent of political interference and his integrity unquestioned, having a solemn mission. Blumenthal says Christopher Wray was nominated because of the vacancy of Jim Comey for reasons that led to an aspect of an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into whether the Trump campaign concluded colluded with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election. Blumenthal says that the news that President Donald Trump wrote a statement in the name of his son about a meeting with Russian persons that promised dirt on Hillary Clinton, and directly misled about that meeting is at stake, adding potential pieces of evidence to criminal intent by adding color and fitting a mosaic. Blumenthal says a threat of Trump to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions as a vehicle to fire Robert Mueller would precipitate a firestorm and put the president over a precipice that likely could lead to the most dramatic action possible in a democracy.
