CLEAN: US Marines use dogs to find bombs in Afghanistan
US Marines patrolled the outskirts of Marjah in Helmand province on Tuesday with the help of corporals Goodwin (black) and Brooks (golden), Labrador dogs whose job is to lead the men to safety through dusty foot paths and compounds where Taliban militants plant deadly improvised bombs. Corporals Goodwin and Brooks are half of a quartet of expert dogs trained to sniff five kinds of explosives, from military grade plastic C-4 bombs to chemicals used by the Talibans in making bombs. Together, these dogs of war have probably saved more lives than any other in the Marine corps now in Afghanistan. Marjah, Afghanistan. (Footage by AFPTV via Getty Images)
