Tilbury Fort and River Thames (1871 engraving) - stock illustration
The first Tilbury Fort, on the north bank of the River Thames just outside London in Essex, was constructed in 1539, during the reign of Henry VIII, to defend London from attack from the sea. The fort in this engraving dates from 1670. Engraving from "Collins' Illustrated Guide to London and Neighbourhood", price one shilling; published by William Collins, Sons & Company, London, in 1871.
