Herbesthal, Belgium: These official photographs, showing the execution of German and Italian spies during World War II, were released recently by the US Defense Department and appear in the current issue of the magazine, People Today. At left, grim scene at Herbesthal, Belgium, in December 1944, as an American medical officer examined the bullet-riddled bodies of three German spies who died before a US firing squad.
