Movers and Seconders of the addresses in both Houses of Parliament in answer to the Queen's Speech: the Earl of Shelburne, 1862. Henry Petty Fitzmaurice, by courtesy Earl of Shelburne and Baron Wycombe by summons to the House of Peers during the lifetime of his father, is the eldest surviving son of the Marquis of Lansdowne by the fifth daughter of the second Earl of Ilchester. He was born, at his father's town residence in Berkeley-square, in 1816. He married, first, in 1840, the fifth daughter of the eleventh Earl of Pembroke; and after her death, in 1841, he married, secondly, in 1843, the eldest daughter of the Comte de Flahault (the present Ambassador from France to this country) and the Baroness Keith and Naime. In December, 1847, during Lord J. Russell's Ministry, he was a Lord of the Treasury, but resigned in 1848; and was Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs in Lord Palmerston's first Government, from June, 1856, to March, 1858. He represented the borough of Calne from 1847 to 1856, when he was called up to the House of Peers by his father's barony of Wycombe'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862. Creator: Unknown.
