Quindio Farmers Work Amid Strike Blockades
PIJAO, COLOMBIA - JUNE 02: Natalia Perez carries vegetables in a basket as part of a volunteer work called "La Canastilla del Buen Vivir" (The Basket of Good Living) on June 02, 2021 in Pijao, Colombia. Natalia's work has main importance in the middle of the social situation since it has allowed the distribution of food to different places. Farmers of the Quindio region struggle as protests against Ivan Duque's administration have not stopped since erupting on April 28 against a tax reform bill which was later withdrawn. The national strike and blockades designed to put pressure on the government are also undermining the work of local plantane, coffee and milk producers. As the agricultural sector counts nearly u$s 500,000 lost, farmers started trying to transport their own production, lowering prices and even producing cheese from their milk to avoid it's expiration.
