Royal Couple Arrive From Kenya
7th February 1952: Queen Elizabeth II steps from her plane on her at arrival at London Airport (now Heathrow) after being recalled from Kenya following the death of her father King George VI. Waiting for her at the bottom of the plane steps are Clement Attlee and serving British Prime minister Winston Churchill. She was proclaimed Sovereign of each of the Commonwealth Realms two days earlier, after the King's death during the night of 5th-6th February. She heard the news while staying at Sagana Lodge, in Kenya. (Photo by Popperfoto via Getty Images/Getty Images)
