Slaves in Chains, Zanzibar
Slaves in chains on the island of Zanzibar in the 19th century. Slavery was abolished in March 5, 1873. Within twenty four hours the main slave market on Zanzibar was closed and slave trade was officially put to an end. The ivory trade was the second most profitable enterprise in Zanzibar next to the slave trade in the 19th century. (Photo by Bojan Brecelj/CORBIS/Corbis via Getty Images)
