RAYONG, THAILAND - 2009/03/19: Thai workers on the production line at the Auto Alliance automobile plant at the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Rayong province about 2 hours drive east of Bangkok. The factory is a joint venture between Mazda and Ford and has a monthly production capacity of 175,000 vehicles. At full tilt the factory produces a new car every 1.6 minutes. Feeling the impact of a global economic slowdown, Ford says it has cut production by about 20%, slowing its production line to a rate of one new car every 2.8 minutes. The company claims that it has not yet laid off any of its workers. A hub for auto manufacturing in Asia, Thailand is often dubbed 'the Detroit of the East'..
