Picture is an aerial view of the north-eastern part of Venice, as seen from a Saint Mark's Square point of view. The picture shows mainly the Castello district and the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, a XIVth century gothic church, one of the largest in Venice, known as the place of burial of 25 doges. In the foreground the Campo Santa Maria Formosa, its church and bell tower can be seen. Behind the basilica, the Venitian lagoon is visible with the small island of San Michele and the town of Murano. All the area is classified as an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, as part of the inscription of Venice and its lagoon.
