Château de Lavardin - stock video

The Château de Lavardin is a ruined castle in the village of Lavardin in the Loir-et-Cher département of France on the Loir river. The castle is now property of the commune, and has been classified since 1945 as an historical monument. Built on a promontory, beginning in the 11th century, it was once the main fortress for the Count of Vendôme around the late 12th century, after which it was altered a few times. In 1590 it was dismantled on the orders of Henri IV, the Duke of Vendôme and King of France. Today it stands above the picturesque floral village of Lavardin, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The village has been frequented by renowned painters since about 1900, most notably Busson and Sauvage.
