Power for Puerto Rico Coalition representative statement on federal response to Hurricane Maria

Federico de Jesus with the Power for Puerto Rico Coalition says at a press conference on mortality rates in Puerto Rico in the nine months since Hurricane Maria that 4,645 were estimated dead in a staggering report of the Harvard school of public health, who perished because of Hurricane Maria and the aftermath, but what was sadder is that tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans on the island and in the states still faced difficulty without power or in temporary housing without a home with a roof, running water or other basics, and the hurricane was definitely not over including his mother who still faced outages, and vicissitudes like traffic lights were still out, calling for an urgent investigation through hearings, a 9/11 style commission or a GAO investigation to get to the bottom of the issue to arrive at real consequences since deaths were avoidable and the storm may not have been as deadly but for government mismanagement.
