Filipino Activists Picket NBC over Mail Order Sitcom
Filipino American activists picket outside of NBC universal to call for a meeting with studio executives over a proposed sitcom called "Mail Order Family" NBC announced last week that they were in development of a sitcom loosely based on writer/producer Jackie Clarke's family experience with a Filipina Mail Order Bride who eventually became her stepmother. The concept received instant backlash, with Filipinos denouncing the negative stereotypes and the practice of mail order brides. NBC has since stopped development, but activists are calling for meetings with executives.
