Flood damage across central Britain: Tim Brain press conference; ENGLAND: Gloucestershire: Gloucester; INT Chief Constable Tim Brain (Gloucestershire Police) press conference SOT - Like to express my sympathy for all those in the county in Gloucestershire and beyond / Thanks to public for their patience and forebearance / Would like to thank all agencies involved in rescue and recovery - The critical situation at Walham was held overnight and this substation has continued to function / That has been as a result of super human effort - The crisis may have past last night / Ongoing emergency is not over / The water is still high / High peaks today are expected about midnight - We have been able to begin process that Castlemead functions as normal / Can restore power - In terms of the Mythe treatment plant the engineers are beginning the process of inspection / Making the plant safe is still a two day process - In terms of restoring water supply we have to plan for the medium term / Have to make sure the gains we have made and held in last 24 hours are maintained for the next few days - Can only emphasise that government is strongly aware of our requirements and are keen to help - On question of immediate water supply, there is sufficient for personal needs / It is important for people to conserve their own domestic supplies and do not panic
