ICE Arrests Undocumented Immigrants In New York City
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers process arrested undocumented immigrants at their office on April 11, 2018 at the U.S. Federal Building in lower Manhattan, New York City. Officers had detained the immigrants during a large-scale 6-day ICE operation, launched throughout the five boroughs of NYC. It was one of the biggest such ICE ops in NYC in recent years. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) division brought in officers from field offices throughout the northeast for the operation, which captured hundreds of immigrants with invalid legal status. ICE detentions, which usually lead to deportation proceedings, are frequently controversial in New York, which is considered a 'sanctuary city' for undocumented immigrants.
