Nobel Winner Omura Recalls Awarding As "Good Trip"

TOKYO, JAPAN – DEC. 13: Japan's winner of this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Satoshi Omura came back to Japan on December 13. Omura recalled the one long week of series of awarding ceremonies in Sweden as "good trip," describing royal dinner was left him the strongest impression as he enjoyed wonderful food and casual chats with the royal princes and other figures. Omura also recalled the moment when the Swedish king handed the medal and diploma to him in person. 'The king shook my hand firmly. I was a strikingly moving moment," the 80-year old scientist said. Omura, a professor emeritus at Kitasato University in Japan, shared the prize with William Campbell, an Ireland-born research fellow emeritus at Drew University in the United States. Tu Youyou, a Chinese national and chief professor at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, also won the Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her discovery of artemisinin, a drug against malaria.
