“Cancel the 4th of July” – Protest in NYC

NEW YORK, NY – JULY 4, 2020: On July 4 (US Independence Day) anti-4th of July activist rally at Madison Square Park in Downton Manhattan. The event was organized by Freedom March NYC a protest group civil rights organization organized by young black women leading non-violent protests. The group calls for the “Cancellation” of the 4th of July and this rally is a continuation of the Juneteenth Holiday held nationwide on June 29, 2020. The event brings light upon George Floyd and others who were killed by police throughout the United States. The death of George Floyd has sparked worldwide protests. Demonstrators demand the Defunding of the NYPD (New York City Police Department) and that Mayor Bill de Blasio divert part of the NYPD's budget to social services and education.
