Elderly people recovered from COVID-19 discharged from hospitals with applauds in Turkey

ISTANBUL, ERZURUM, ADIYAMAN, TURKEY - APRIL 10: There was much applause as many survivors of the novel coronavirus were discharged from hospitals across Turkey after overcoming the illness on April 10, 2020. Doctor Omer Faruk Bilici and 93-year-old patient Alye Gunduz in Istanbul who were tested positive for the coronavirus at the hospital are amongst those who have recovered. After receiving treatment they recovered and were discharged with applauds. "Discharging our 93-year-old patient shouldn't be understood as a sense of security for elder people. They should stay at home. Of course, older people are at the highest risk in Turkey and in other countries. Absolutely all of us must follow the rules to defeat the pandemic," Dr. Mustafa Sait Gonen, dean of Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty said. Another 87-year-old patient Ibrahim Ozmen has also defeated the virus and was discharged from the hospital with applauds in the eastern Erzurum province. 79-year-old Gulperi Koc was also discharged from hospital after eight days of treatment in the southeastern Adiyaman province. "Stay at your home and do not be afraid. It gets worse if you fear," patient Gulperi Koc said. On Thursday, 96 more people died from the coronavirus in Turkey, bringing the death toll to 908, and the total number of cases to 42,282. A total of 2,142 people have so far recovered and been discharged from the hospital. (Footage by Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
