Video footage taken on Feb. 6 at Okunitama-jinja shrine in Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture, shows a “nude” festival as thousands of men dressed in little more than loincloths jostle to touch one participant designated as the year’s charm for warding off misfortune. About 8,000 men braved the cold to take part in the Shinto rite, pressing tightly together to lift up and get a chance to touch the chosen “shinotoko” individual, a 28 year-old company employee from the city.
