Gene Wilder Talks About Improvising With Richard Pryor

Gene Wilder: Well when Richard and I worked together it was not like any other rehearsal or filming that I’ve had with other people because we improvise a lot, we did improvise a lot. And Sidney Poitier just said, “You guys do whatever you’re gonna do and let’s see what happens.” So we’d maybe have a minute to think it over. You don’t think of lines, just the emotion of the situation and then it just bursts out and either it works or it doesn’t. In our case it usually worked. But that’s the way it always was with Richard and me.
